About this Campaign
On Friday, April 19th, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre will present a student matinee of the play, Pride and Prejudice, based on the novel by Jane Austen, written by Kate Hamill. This is an excellent opportunity for all students to see a professional theatre production and make connections to the concepts and ideas students learn in Drama, Acting, and Stagecraft classes. Many students have never had the chance to attend a professional, live theatre event and this performance provides a wonderful opportunity for students’ first exposure to live theatre. Students will practice audience etiquette while observing the curriculum - acting technique and technical theatre elements - come to life through the world of the play. Following the performance, students will have the opportunity to attend a Q & A session with the performers and technicians from the show.
This show will address the following themes and connections: young woman protagonist, British literature, love and friendship, misplaced pride and smart pride, judging too quickly, class conflicts, independent women vs. their opportunities, family dynamics, our perceptions of love, courtship and marriage, self-discovery and growth, the individual and society, history as relevant to today
