About this Campaign

Moffet’s goal is to create a sensory room for both of our Autistic Support classrooms as well as provide a space for students who need physical therapy or a calming space.

Children on the Autism spectrum have sensory needs that must be met in order for them to be comfortable, feel safe, and learn. Some of the benefits the sensory room will give our students are:

Learn more about Autism Spectrum Disorder from our special episode of the Moffet Tattle-Tale Student Podcast! Students researched ASD and interviewed our staff for Autism Awareness Month

1) Sensory stimulation:When users engage and explore their surroundings, they are beginning to learn how to react and interact with the much larger world around them.
2) Increased learning and play:
Sensory stimulation engages different areas of the brain and helps children better absorb and retain information.
3) Improved balance, movement, and spatial orientation:
Sensory rooms can help develop users’ visual processing abilities as well as their fine and gross motor skills, facilitating day-to-day living.
4) Helps tackle behavioral problems:
Multi-sensory environments can be “highly absorbing, providing a moment of comfort and calm for overactive and distressed individuals, and helping inactive individuals to feel better engaged. This improves focus and prevents users from getting the urge to ‘act up.'”

When students’ sensory needs are met, they are able to regulate and focus.  This increases their learning and decreases their frustrations and distractions.

Check out this Video from Edutopia that showcases the benfits and uses of a sensory room and many similar items we are seeking for our learners!

Thank you for supporting Moffet and our special students!
