About this Campaign
Over the summer break I was able to relax and reflect on how I could better enhance the learning of my students during our math and science blocks. While listening to an educational podcast about bridging the achievement gap, they mentioned increasing the number of hands on, authentic experiences students should have. I feel that one way I can increase hands on learning and inquiry is by providing students the tools to create in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) center. Materials I would hope to provide include: (building tools) K’nexs, Brain Flakes, Magnatiles, more block 3D shapes, Legos, and a set of straw constructors. I would also like to have a supply of consumable materials such as plastic cups, toothpicks, Play-Doh, pipe-cleaners, rubber bands, foam balls, Popsicle sticks etc. There are many educational benefits to allowing students to be innovative and creative. Students with access to STEM materials and lessons learn valuable life skills such as perseverance, problem solving, and risk taking when they are unsure of the expected outcome! Please help me provide an opportunity to give my students hands on learning experiences, which will better prepare them for careers in the 21st century.
