About this Campaign
My name is Betsy Prange and I’m a 2nd grade teacher at Pleasant Hill Elementary School. We are a Title I building and my classroom is part of an EL pilot program. I want to celebrate the 8 different languages in my classroom this year through books!
My reason for creating this project is simple, I believe students should see themselves in the books they read. I also want to expose students to cultures, jobs, and people they may not have heard about before. I have comprised a list of 72 different titles that show characters with different skin colors, cultures, and disabilities. You can find the list of books here.
With your help, my students will be picking up biographies about Bruce Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, and Jane Goodall (just to name a few!). They'll learn about Mommy's Khimar, Festival of Colors, and Alma and How She Got Her Name. They will laugh at silly books with characters who look just like them (and their friends)!
