About this Campaign
The lion dance has been part of the Chinese culture for thousands of years. Other Asian countries such as Cambodia, Japan, Korea and Vietnam took this dance into their culture. It is performed widely at weddings, business openings, and various festivals and celebrations. The lion dance is said to bring luck and good fortune to those who see it, as lions are viewed as lucky animals in Chinese culture.
I am the Chinese teacher and the supervisor for the Chinese Club at Inglemoor. I believe the lion dance is a great demonstration of Chinese culture. It will excite students to learn more about Chinese culture. It is a combination of martial arts and music. Lion dancers imitate a lion's various movements accompanied by the music of beating drums, clashing cymbals, and resounding gongs.
Each Lion costume costs nearly $1000 to purchase, but they will last for years and years to come. We need at least 2 Lion’s to make the group viable but we have enough students interested already to use 5!
Please help us grow our Lion Dance Team here in Northshore. The team will perform at Chinese New Year celebrations and other events in the community.
