About this Campaign
The Northshore Book Drive, started by Sandy Hayes and Jazmin Loreto, has continued to serve the needs of students throughout the district since school and public libraries closed their doors in March. Dedicated volunteers meet weekly to fill and deliver custom orders.
Books have generously been donated by families and teachers. Purchased books have been obtained through financial donations by many PTSAs in the district as well as Northshore Schools Foundation and Third Place Books. At this time, we have delivered over 9,000 books to students’ homes ages Pre-k through High school and handed out over 400 books in neighborhoods. We will continue to take orders and deliver books until the libraries reopen.
We are running out of quality books to get into the hands of Northshore students. We need high-quality award-winning books by diverse authors to deliver to students. Research has shown that children need books in their homes to improve their reading achievement. Over 60% of low-income families have zero books in their homes. This equates to 15% of our students in NSD, about 3,600 students. With all 24,000 students having limited or no access to libraries at this point, we are in desperate need of books.
Your donation today will allow us to purchase high demand books to supplement those that have been donated.
Please consider donating and sharing this campaign with friends and family who cherish the value of books too.
