About this Campaign

Multicultural literature serves as a powerful tool, enabling students to gain a better understanding of their own culture and the cultures of others. Students at Eliza B. Kirkbride School represent more than 30 different ethnicities, and many are new immigrants. Over 46% of our students receive services for English as a Second Language, with Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese and Khmer being the primary native languages of our students. Our project, which will purchase multicultural novel sets for middle school students, will allow our school to create a multicultural literature section in our NEW library with books that represent the cultures of our students. Each of the novel sets will feature characters and stories that reflect the cultures of our students. These novels sets provide the opportunity for students to delve more deeply into their biographical studies through rich literature and allow students to gain a better understanding of their classmates.
