About this Campaign
Educators are overwhelming compassionate people who want to help others. No matter the desire, unfortunately, there is a lack of current understanding how to support students with mental health challenges. We operate under a reactive and patchwork system which is outdated and insufficient given the rising numbers of students who struggle with some type of mental health challenge. This course will allow me to learn and have updated learning in nine areas of competency: Depresssion, Anxiety, Behavior Modifications, Suicide, ADHD, IEP and Program Development, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, Obsessessive Compulsive Disorder, and Traumatic Brain Injury. In turn, this will help me lead the staff and students at NAI to be more proactive in our work with students to hopefully educate our teachers, build skills within our students, and recognize and intervene earlier when the need arises.

The Student Mental Health Specialist (SMHS) and Student Mental Health Certificate (SMHC) programs were created by a team of experts, including international leaders in the educational field, Tier 1 University researchers, master educators, and clinical professionals. The programs were designed based on feedback from your peers and leaders in education to address the most-needed training topics for special education and general education teachers, as well as paraprofessionals.
