About this Campaign

This experience would allow our roughly 135 fourth grade students at Belmont Elementary the opportunity to take what we are learning in the classroom and experience it first hand. During third quarter, students will learn about our solar system during their science and reading times. This includes learning more about our planets, the phases of the moon, the sun and so much more!

This unit is truly a fun and exciting topic for our students. However, this unit is also very abstract to our students and can be difficult for them to understand, since much of our solar system is not visible to us everyday. By visiting the planetarium, students will be able to make these abstract connections by seeing video and footage of what we talk about in class.

Our students come from very diverse backgrounds and many do not get opportunities like this to experience on their own. Much of their hands-on learning comes from the field trips and experiments that are provided by our school and district. This would definitely be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a large majority of our students.

Our budget includes the cost for reserving and viewing the planetarium and transportation (buses) to and from the planetarium for our 135 fourth grade students and their teachers.
