About this Campaign

The Convention has several competitions for students of all German levels, including Spelling Bee, Knowledge Bowl (like German Quiz Bowl), Music Performance, Directed Dialogues (interview in German), Vocabulary Knowledge, Skit performance, Art Submissions, Poetry writing and performance, and Cake Making. The competitions are level appropriate and 14 Nebraska schools attended in 2017. This Convention gives the students more opportunities to learn about German speaking cultures and interact with other German students. If the student is not in a competition at a given time, other learning activities are offered, such as learning about animals, making Spaghetti Eis, doing various learning games and learning German songs. Students already learn about poetry, German Culture and history in their classes, and the German Convention gives the students a place to use that knowledge.

I am requesting $700 (plus fees) to cover the price of entrance for 70 students into the 43nd Annual Nebraska State German Convention, April 6th 2019. Entry is $10 per student, covering all materials, prizes and lunch for the day. Last year 18 LSE students attended for the competition in Omaha, and I’m expecting to get more students to attend because this year it will be hosted in Lincoln for the first time in years.
