About this Campaign

Lincoln Public Schools' Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum includes a child development unit in which students learn about stages of child development. This unit is a valuable opportunity to promote family literacy and the importance of reading to children and how it impacts brain development.

Moore FCAS department and the Moore library would like to collaborate on a project that involves students researching and developing "book bags" that contain books and related activities such as puppets, games and props that would be age-appropriate for our students to check out from the library and take home to read to their siblings and children they are babysitting. These bags would also be appropriate for our Life Skills students to check out and take to the classroom or take home. Requesting $500 plus cost reimbursement.

Dear General Excavating,

We are incredibly thankful for your generous donation to our literacy take-home bags campaign.  We are beyond excited to get this project started with our students this quarter. This will provide an invaluable opportunity for students to learn about the importance of reading and brain development as they design and select items for the literacy bags.  In addition, the literacy bags will be an ongoing resource for students and families to check out from the Moore library for years to come.  Your thoughtful donation is very much appreciated.  We can't wait to share some photos of the outcome!

Sincerely,

Sara Meier, Moore Middle School Librarian

Dear General Excavating,

Our students have finished putting together twelve literacy take-home bags with your generous donation! They had the opportunity to visit the YMCA childcare program next door to test them out and had a blast. Moore students loved sharing the books and activities they compiled with the children. We have already had several students check the bags out from the Moore Library to use with siblings and babysitting jobs.  Thank you for enabling us to create this experience for our FCS students in their child development unit. We are excited that the bags will continue to be checked out to our students for years to come.
