About this Campaign

Your gift would help to build my classroom library, giving access to about 100 eighth graders in my English classroom within a Title I school (as well as future classes of students). As a teacher, keeping my classroom library filled with current, high-demand titles is really important to me in terms of keeping kids engaged in reading.

In 2017 after my first Fund-a-Need was filled, I saw the power of having new and engaging books for my students to read during class. When students have struggled with finding the "right book" I am able to give book talks and recommendations from the classroom. I am greatly appreciative of the start I had building my classroom library and would love to continue adding new titles.

It is also part of my goal to select titles that are diverse in characters, content, and genre, including fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, and books in verse. Rudine Sims Bishop (1990) writes that books need to be windows (for kids to see the experiences of others), mirrors (to see themselves and those with similar backgrounds and experiences), and sliding glass doors (to see opportunities in the world). I would love to continue to give students these opportunities through my classroom library.

The donations could also provide a book chair or rug to make the reading area more inviting. This would be secondary to the main goal.

Thank you for your consideration in my proposal! Requesting $701.60 plus cost reimbursement.

Hello to all of the donors!

Hello and thank you for your donations! I want to express my extreme gratitude for not only your contribution to the campaign, but also your belief in the power of connecting kids with reading! I had actually told the students this morning that I was uncertain the campaign would fill, so you can imagine my shock and surprise when it filled today! I was so thankful that I nearly cried!

I cannot wait to begin building a list of books from all of the students' recommendations! I will be personally writing a thank you note to each of you to send as soon as we make the purchases, so that we can share pictures of all of the great books with you!

Thank you again for your support and generosity!
