About this Campaign

Your gift would help to support multimodal learning for 100 eighth-graders in my English classroom within a Title I school (as well as future classes of students). I've been blessed with two successful fund-a-need campaigns where I was able to increase engagement, choice, and joy through books. This proposal would be further my efforts and serve three purposes

  1.  Increase classroom library book volume by helping me to fill in gaps (genres/authors/perspectives that are underrepresented) and replace some worn out or un-returned titles
  2.  Create space for calming/sensory. This might look like a chair or desk with some calming or sensory manipulative items
  3. A class set of headphones. This allows everyone (not just those with personal headphones) to use them when necessary or helpful in the learning

My last fund-a-need was fulfilled in October 2020, therefore many titles went missing because of the frequent movement between in-person and remote learning. The pandemic has also created additional stress for students, so having books, a calming classroom space, and audio supports will not only provide students an opportunity for increased literacy, but also help students to calm down/regulate and meet differing needs in order to stay in the classroom environment.  Requesting $613.90 plus cost reimbursement.

As a teacher, keeping my classroom library filled with current, high-demand titles is really important to me in terms of keeping kids engaged in reading. Reading is one of the simplest ways we can add joy to our classrooms- especially when so many other things in the world are so uncertain right now. Keeping kids in the classroom, helping them stay regulated, and supporting differing modes of learning are all ways to increase achievement and equity in our schools.

Thank you for your consideration in my proposal!

Mr. Berry,

We wanted to extend a heartfelt thanks for your donation. It means a great deal to have donors who are willing to support the learning of students at Lefler!

Students are sharing recommendations and we will update you after we've made the purchases. I am so excited to expand the classroom library and increase access to reading and calming materials! :)

Sincerely,

Lindsey Scheinost and class
