About this Campaign
The LPS Indian Education Program offers American Indian students and their families a network of support to help improve academically and increase the district’s high school graduation rate. The program’s Indian Education Team works directly with students, advocating on their behalf, providing tutoring and mentoring and creating opportunities for students to learn and grow at school and in the workplace. This team also organizes events to expose students to new academic programs, cultural enrichment activities and visits to college campuses.
Unfortunately, because this program is funded through federal grants for which food is not an allowable cost, it is otherwise impossible to provide sack lunches, snacks or meals for the various field trips and activities that are sponsored. These events are scheduled on non-school days so students do not miss out on school, but this means that school lunches are not an option.
A donation of $2,000 would allow the Indian Education Program to provide meals and snacks for day-long field trips and events the program sponsors for students to expose them to experiential learning during the school year and during summer months. While this need may sound small and simple, providing food makes all the difference between actively engaged students and those who are tired and unfocused. Requesting $2,000 plus cost reimbursement.
