About this Campaign
This project helps support McPhee’s mission statement: To achieve academic and social growth with equitable outcomes by serving students and impacting the community.
Through this Fund a Need, your gifts help bring a set of 10 books to each classroom at McPhee Elementary and they would remain in the classroom to benefit scholars for years to come. Each set of books was selected from the Lincoln Public Schools Media Services MOSAIC Collection. The goal of the Mosaic collection is to bring books to students that authentically and realistically portray the diversity of all students, from both historical and contemporary perspectives. The categories represented include: African/African American, Asian/Asian American, Middle East/Middle East American, American Indian, Latino/Latina or Latino/Latina American, Global, LGBTQ+, Persons with Disabilities. Requesting $2,575 plus cost reimbursement.
In an NPR interview, author Scott Simon said, "I think it's very important that young readers be able to read books in which they can see people who are like them. I think it's also important for young readers to be able to read books in which they meet people who are nothing like them — or they think are nothing like them."
We believe it is important for McPhee scholars to see themselves represented in literature and also see people who differ from them represented in literature. This will help scholars be accepting and respectful of all people and aid them in becoming global citizens.
By donating to this campaign you allow us to meet our goal and the LPS Board of Education’s mission to develop responsible adults:
- who are productive citizens of a pluralistic community, nation and world;
- who are prepared to learn throughout their lives; and
- who are appreciative of the arts, history and culture.

Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for your generosity and donating toward this project. We are so excited to receive our books and get them into the hands of teachers and scholars. By donating to our project, you are helping all scholars to see themselves in literature. Additionally, these books will help scholars see the value in human diversity in the world.
THANK YOU!
