Xylophones for Culler Students

This campaign is to raise funds for 3 portable xylophones for Culler percussion students. 

Beginning percussionists are at a disadvantage compared to their peers who play other instruments because they don't have the opportunity to practice at home on a high quality instrument. Trumpet players get a trumpet, flute players get a flute, but percussionists are given a rubber practice pad and might buy a small metal bell kit if their families can afford it. These bell kits do not replicate the feel or sound of the larger instruments we expect them to play in class.

I would like to purchase 3 portable 3-octave xylophones. These instruments can be used in class or be checked out by students to allow them to practice at home on higher quality instruments that have a more mature sound and allow for practicing more advanced techniques. My hope is that this opportunity will excite students and inspire a greater love for mallet instruments, ultimately leading to a longer and more fulfilling band experience for young percussionists. Requesting $1,570 plus cost reimbursement.

The xylophones are here!

We unpacked the xylophones last week and students have started using them in class. This is a great opportunity to get more kids involved and excited about playing mallets, and to provide more opportunities for students to practice at home.  We're even hoping to showcase our percussionists in a mallet ensemble at the Spring Variety Show in April!
