Rockin' the Classroom

I have been lucky enough to have acquired 3 student rocking chairs over my 13 year career. They are pricey and hard to come by because of it. Every year I have students rush to get to the classroom to be the first to snag one of those three precious seats to start their day. Generally, students are more focused when they can get some movement during learning. 

We know how important it is for students to actively move their bodies. They can get their movements through recess and P.E., but sometimes that isn't enough. I want to bring more movement into the classroom to increase active engagement for young students who want to learn in an active way.

I am therefore writing a fund-a-need to request funds to buy an entire classroom set of rocking chairs. These chairs are a lifesaver for those very active students who can't sit still, but it goes even beyond that. All 1st graders want to move. I want to give them that opportunity to move in the classroom to increase focus and attention, improve memory and retention, and bring a little more joy into their days.

With these funds, I would buy 24 Zuma brand rocking chairs for my classroom.
