About this Campaign
Lakeview fourth graders have the opportunity to experience firsthand things they've studied in social studies by visiting the Durham Museum in Omaha. Students will attend three different programs while we are at the museum: Omaha Homes and Families, All Aboard, and Native American Life. Students spent first quarter learning about Native Americans, third quarter learning about the railroad and its impact on Nebraska, and will finish the year by learning about modern-day Nebraska.
Seeing these exhibits and participating in the hands-on learning that come with visiting a museum will help students feel connected to their state and its history. Fourth grade social studies is focused entirely on Nebraska History, and these exhibits and programs will support the hard work and learning that students have done.
The Durham Museum is located in the National Historic Landmark of Omaha’s art deco Union Station. The museum houses exhibits that contain restored train cars, 1940s store fronts, numerous artifacts showing the history of the region, and the Byron Reed Collection which includes some of the world’s rarest coins and documents. There are also traveling exhibits through the museum’s affiliation with the Smithsonian, Library of Congress, National Archives, and Chicago’s Field Museum. Requesting $295 plus cost reimbursement.
