About this Campaign

Last year we were blessed with funding for 17 ukuleles for our classroom.  We started using them in the setting of an after school ukulele club for interested 5th grade students.  We learned together how the ukulele works, how it's tuned, how to hold and strum it, and were able to play a few songs by the end.  We would like to expand our group and eventually have ukulele be a part of the school day.  To do this most effectively, we would like to acquire enough instruments for each student to have one available to them.  We would like to request additional funding to help us reach that goal.  The ukulele is one of the fastest growing instruments in popularity in recent years, and the trend does not seem to be slowing.  Some of  it's many endearing qualities are the relative affordability of a quality instrument, and the ease at which it can be learned and mastered.  Success happens rather quickly, and students respond very positively to creating music with relative ease.  In addition, the engagement level of students increases immensely with the addition of instruments as well.  Our club inspired multiple students to check out ukuleles from the public libraries, in addition to a couple of students deciding to purchase their own so that they could play at home as well.  I thank you for your consideration in creating such a positive opportunity for the students of Calvert Elementary. Requesting $650 plus cost reimbursement.

I wanted to thank all of our donors that helped us reach the goal of getting a classroom set of instruments!  We had our first ukulele group join in our chorus concert this week, and it was amazing!!   We named our group the Kaioke Ukuleles (k-eye-okay-ay).  Kaioke is Hawaiian for Coyote!  Thank you again for your generosity!
