About this Campaign

Last year around 500 students were homeless for part of the school year. At any given time, a significant portion of LPS families are one $250 bill (e.g. an unexpected car repair or medical emergency) away from being homeless.

Your gifts will help keep families whole, safe, and keep kids in school. With more than 42,000 students in the district and 46 percent living at or below poverty, the Homeless Student Fund makes an immediate difference for students in need. For instance:

Rachel, a middle school student, moved to the People’s City Mission after her mother and siblings were evicted following a medical hardship and domestic violence. She struggled to attend school until the school social worker realized the family was newly homeless. With help from the Homeless Student Fund, the family received assistance for transportation services, as well as coats for Rachel and her younger siblings.

Rachel’s mother worked tirelessly to find new employment and start a new life for the family. Rachel’s mother worked extra hours and saved enough money for a deposit and nearly all of the first month’s rent for an apartment that met all of their needs.

There are many students like Rachel who need help today. Thank you for your consideration. Requesting $2,000 plus cost reimbursement.
