About this Campaign

Last school year, Lefler 8th grade students created a Student Identity Through Embroidery Panel project that gave them the opportunity to explore their personal identity and how it is influenced by their ethnicity, pop culture, family history, personal experiences and interests. Students were highly engaged, deeply invested in the project and proud of their embroidery and the essays they wrote. It was a huge success and we would like to do it again this year.
Through this project, students will identify the elements most essential to their identity and think through how to best express them in a collage using photos, text, and symbols. The resulting images will be printed onto fabric that students will then embroider and embellish to add another personal touch, new skillset and layer of meaning. They will also work with community and parent volunteers who will assist the students as they learn new embroidery techniques. The project will culminate in an evening community event where students will showcase their artwork to staff, family, and community members.
To complete this project we need funds to purchase fabric, embroidery floss, ribbons, beads, batting, dowels and other materials. Requesting $1,400 plus cost reimbursement.
