Family Literacy Night Books and Materials

Fredstrom elementary will be hosting our first Family Literacy Night on March 25! This event is designed to bring families together around a central theme to explore connections amongst literacy, art, music, math, and science. The evening will be focused on the book Don't Trust Fish by Neil Sharpson. Families will have the opportunity to circulate amongst a variety of interactive stations that connect to the book including: viewing a recorded read aloud of the book by the author, designing your own fish with adaptations in art, exploring various animal classification groups from multiple community organizations, developing fact vs. opinion understandings from the book as comprehension, matching numbers while engaging in a game of Go Fish!, as well as others. As part of the evening, we would like to give each family a copy of Don't Trust Fish to take home, as well as a new pack of Go Fish! playing cards. The remainder of the budget will be spent on bags to collect materials from community tables. We are excited for this family event to highlight the connections of literacy, math, science, art, and music while also providing a space for families to interact with each other.
